Who Built the Captain’s Hut?
Friday. A prisoner asked me today who built this shanty. The captain was in earshot, so I said the captain. Now he has gone back to the ship and I can tell the truth.
I built it. Every plank, every barrel, every knot in every rope. The captain chose the island and drew a picture of a hut on the back of a map, and the picture had no door. I added the door. You are welcome.
These days the ship and the shanty sit together in three cities, so a crew can do one and then the other. Most start with the galleon, because that is where the story starts, then come ashore to my hut. A few do it backwards, which the captain says is like eating pudding first. I have never seen what is wrong with pudding first.
Big groups split in two and play both at once, then argue in the lobby about whose half had the harder time. Both halves always say theirs. Both halves are always wrong. Mine is harder. It is better hidden.
Note: mend the third barrel. Somebody leaned on it to think.
